Umami Kombu
Wild-harvested Umami Kombu is a thick brown kelp traditionally revered for its dense mineral content, natural umami flavor, and restorative properties. Sustainably foraged from the pristine Northern California coastline, this nutrient-rich sea vegetable supports both culinary and wellness rituals.
Inspired by traditional Hokkaido kombu-curing techniques, Origin Seaweed uses a slow, low-temperature drying process that naturally concentrates minerals, salts, and sulfated polysaccharides at the surface of the kelp. This method enhances flavor, digestibility, and aroma, producing a subtle, molasses-like scent and a deeply savory umami profile prized in Japanese cuisine.
- Create plant-based dashi broth or use in soups and stews for added umami, vitamins & minerals
- Ground up and steeped in hot water as a morning tonic
- Cold-brewed with filtered or spring water in the fridge as a hydrating tonic
- Add to beans during cooking renders the beans more digestible. When the kombu becomes translucent and dissolves, the beans are ready to eat!
- Add a few pieces to a bath to support luscious skin, or boil and use as a hair rinse for shiny locks!
